General Dentistry
General dentistry offered by Dental Specialists of California may be routine but it’s also extremely important. Our entire team is committed to providing our patients with nothing short of the best dental care available, taking advantage of the latest advances, and always in a comfortable and friendly setting.
Why Oral Health is so Important
While oral health often takes a back seat to more highly publicized aspects of our health, the importance of having healthy gums and teeth cannot be understated. This is especially true when you consider that our bodies are made only of interlinked systems; what happens to one system surely affects the rest. Numerous studies have proven that poor oral health can directly be tied to several ailments such as heart disease and more.
Safeguarding the health of our gums and teeth starts at home with great dental habits but can only be fully maintained through regular dental care. As our patient, you can be sure that we will do everything we can to preserve your oral wellbeing while helping you keep your teeth beautiful, white, and bright.
General Dentistry Services
We offer a full range of treatments, examinations, and procedures aimed at keeping your teeth and gums in outstanding health:
- Teeth Cleaning – Our team of dental health professionals thoroughly cleans hard-to-reach spots between each tooth and removes plaque buildup. It’s what you need for a smile that is just as healthy as it looks.
Professional teeth cleanings should be performed twice a year, with at least one examination yearly. Even with good oral hygiene, harmful bacteria can still build up on teeth. Regular examination and teeth cleaning greatly lessen the chances of developing various maladies and makes sure no problems have developed.
Wisdom Teeth – The often problematic third set of molars is an issue faced by adults and teens alike. Wisdom teeth too often come in sideways, only partially, or remain completely hidden. Many people never notice them at all, while others might experience pain and discomfort. Even when no symptoms are present, they may pose a threat to the adjacent teeth.
As a dentist, board-certified periodontist, and expert in implantology, our team is intimately familiar with the underlying structures that support teeth. Armed with this knowledge, we can offer wisdom teeth extractions that are as comfortable as they can be while also ensuring the long-term viability of your oral health.
- TMJ Treatment – TMJ, or Temporomandibular joint syndrome, is a multisyllabic name for a condition that affects all or some of the parts of your mouth responsible for opening and closing your jaw. Patients with TMJ may experience mild to severe pain in their jaw, teeth, and even neck. TMJ can be caused by a variety of factors that may be related to both lifestyle and genetics.
Treatments for TMJ range from nightguards to surgical operations depending on the cause and severity of the case. If you experience frequent pain in your mouth, especially as it relates to opening and closing your jaw, the doctor may be able to assist in diagnosing both the cause and appropriate treatment for your condition.
- Root Canal – Despite common misperception, a root canal is a mostly comfortable procedure, comparable to getting a filling when properly performed. A root canal is usually called for because the nerve inside of a tooth is inflamed and infected. This infection can, if left untreated, spread to the bone or other parts of the body and may lead to needing to be extracted before the further spread of the infection and preventing breathing issues. Moreover, when the infection develops into a severely painful toothache, a root canal brings speedy relief.
- Dental Crowns – These small prosthetics may be used for several purposes, including as a prosthetic following a root canal, severe discoloration, or to fortify a broken tooth. Dental crowns are made of a material that mimics the look and feels of your natural teeth while protecting the remaining portion of your natural tooth from further damage. Our office has delivered a countless number of crowns, providing superb protection and restoring the beauty of our patients’ smiles.
- IV Sleep Sedation and Laughing Gas (Nitrous Oxide) – Our team is expert at preventing pain during procedures and can mostly work with an only local anesthetic. However, we understand that the prospect of dental work can be extremely stressful for a great many people. In these cases, we offer both laughing gases (known medically as nitrous oxide) and sleep sedation so that our patients can feel at ease throughout their procedure. Sleep sedation is often used for oral surgeries and essentially makes the patient unconscious throughout the procedure. In other cases, nitrous oxide is one of the oldest forms of anesthesia, which works by creating a sense of euphoria. Unlike sleep sedation, the effects of nitrous oxide disappear immediately after the work is completed. Both IV sedation and nitrous oxide are used to give patients a lot more comfort during treatments.
- Bad Breath Treatment – Chronic bad breath (medically known as halitosis) that remains after brushing and flossing can be a sign of many different ailments, both gum and tooth-related. We will work with you to diagnose the exact source of your halitosis while prescribing a treatment plan meant to fight the problem directly.

Zirconia Crowns
Zirconia crowns are ceramic crowns known for their incredible strength and durability. Zirconia crowns are often times the preferred crown option due to their ability to withstand large amounts of pressure.
Porcelain Crowns
In the event that you have a damaged tooth, crowns may become extremely vital to your oral health. Porcelain crowns are porcelain-based prosthetics which essentially cover your broken teeth to protect them to further damage.
IV Sleep Sedation
IV Sedation is offered to help ease patient discomfort, stress, and anxiety. It is most often used during surgical procedures. It causes patients to become drowsy and experience no pain during a procedure as the dentist works on your teeth.
Teeth Cleaning
The benefits of teeth cleaning include plaque removal, fresher breath, and a healthier looking smile. Patients are recommended to schedule their teeth cleaning twice annually as a preventative measure.
Wisdom Teeth
The third set of molars, also known as wisdom teeth, can cause patients a lot of pain or potential issues in the gums and/or nearby teeth. Wisdom teeth are infamously known for growing irregularly: they can emerge sideways, only partially, or not at all.
TMJ
TMJ, or Temporomandibular joint syndrome, is a condition which affects the joints, muscles, and/or nerves which ultimately affect jaw movement. TMJ occurs in some patients due to arthritis, genetics, teeth clenching/grinding, or an injury to the jaw bone.
Root Canal
A root canal is necessary when the soft tissue in the root canal becomes infected or inflamed. Other reasons a patient may need a root canal treatment may include a faulty crown, deep decay or a chipped tooth.
Bad Breath Treatment
Bad breath can be caused by various elements – Whether it be from bacteria build-up or another cause, our team can assist with the diagnosis of the source of your bad breath and seek the most effective methods for you to correct your breath’s odor.
